Sludge is a semi-solid slurry that is produced from a range of industrial processes, water treatment, wastewater treatment or on-site sanitation systems. It is the sediment, particle and floating object produced in the treatment of wastewater by physical, chemical and biological methods.
Sludge transfer refers to the treatment process used to manage and dispose of sewage sludge produced during sewage treatment. Primary sludge consists of settle able solids that are removed during primary treatment in primary clarifiers. While secondary sludge is separated, secondary clarifiers include treated sewage sludge from secondary treatment bioreactors.
Air Operated Diaphragm (AODD) pumps are one of the most popular options for transferring and treatment of sludge. The AODD pump has a single diaphragm which is operated using compressed air. However, if you don’t have an existing air compressor at the wastewater treatment plant, then operating this pump could become an expensive option as you will need to invest in an air compressor.
The other most commonly used is Progressive Cavity Pump which can handle sludge efficiently. While they offer high efficiency, the repair and maintenance can become highly difficult and expensive too. Apart from costs, there are several other challenges too of using AODD Pumps for the Sludge Transfer process such as High Electricity or Energy Cost, Low Flow Rates, High Pressure and Maintenance, Failure of Diaphragm and Wear and Tear of Stator and Rotor respectively.
Cognito has introduced a new technology – the Electrically Operated Diaphragm Pumps. The EODD pumps are an effective alternative to the traditional AODD and other pumps for efficiently performing sludge transfer and treatment process.
The EODD pumps are basically designed on the AODD pumps, however the major difference is the need of an electric energy from a motor to drive the pump action.
Cognito Electrically Operated Diaphragm Pumps are highly engineered pumps that are designed for a long-lasting life. The EODD pumps are designed in a sturdy and robust manner that can handle highly abrasive and viscous fluids efficiently.
Since the EODD pumps operate in an electro-mechanical manner that means without any air, it is highly effective to reduce electricity usage and cost as you do not need to run an air compressor.
It also results in cost optimization as it has a robust mechanism lasting for years of low maintenance life and reduction in intermittent pump failures thus improving energy efficiency.
Our EODD Pumps is equipped with an Intelligent Power Failure Detection System that has leak detection sensors to prevent spillage of fluid from the pump thus reducing downtime.
Another reason why Cognito EODD Pumps should be preferred over AODD Pumps is better flow rates at high pressure that adds to the heavy duty service factor and high reliability factor of the EODD pumps.
To conclude, Cognito EODD Pumps offers extreme versatility of operating in duplex mode as two pumps can work together at the same time, which the AODD Pumps cannot do. Since it works on a 90 degree design, you can use two pumps simultaneously at the same time without any lag in the operation. The electric diaphragm pump offers the best return on investment with lesser wear and tear and lower maintenance than air operated diaphragm pumps.
